Meet the Designer: Ruth Erotokritou

The story behind the brand

Ruth Erotokritou Knitwear was originally established in the year 2000.  Ruth, a graduate of Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, received the Queen’s Scholarship Award and a first class honours degree specialising in Knitted Textiles. Upon leaving St. Martins, Ruth focused on designing knitted fabrics for a number of significant fashion houses, including Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, and Lacroix among others. After gathering experience across multiple collections, she launched her own knitted accessory collection, consisting of wraps, scarves and shawls which were sold in Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty as well as other UK stockists.

In 2003, Ruth successfully established her ready-to-wear line, launching Ruth Erotokritou Womenswear.

Our unique ethos

All fabrics are designed exclusively by Ruth Erotokritou and knitted in-house at her own factory. We do not use any ready-made bought fabrics. All knits are crafted with only the finest Italian yarns, to ensure the highest quality and a style that is unique. The collection’s key focus is on colour and stripes, juxtaposing bright and muted colours with soft and silky knits which feature strongly across the entire Womenswear collection.

Our Signature Style

The collection consists of ready-to-wear for both day-wear and evening-wear, and consists of dresses, tops and cardigans.  Shapes are loose yet feminine, comfortable yet light, and highlighted by shimmering striped lurex threads, a key feature of the collection. Asymmetric wrap tops are the best sellers in the collection which can be worn by any age group and will suit all sizes.

In 2012 Ruth also launched a Kids Collection for Girls from 0-6 months up until 12 years old. The collection is currently available in both Saudi Arabia and Cyprus.

Ruth Erotokritou herself teaches regularly at Central St. Martins on the BA Textile Design Course.
